It was last weekend i.e. October 15, 2016 when I woke up to
tweets announcing Pakistan has set a new world record. Obviously, I got super
excited and started checking out the hashtag #DettolKaDhula. What came next totally made my
day. It said that Pakistan has broken the previous record set by India with
1410 participants in 2015. Ohh, what a relief to know this amidst all the chaos
and tension between the two countries, we are still winning on many grounds :D .
To my surprise, the activity was conducted at Metro Cash & Carry where 1636
students from reputed schools participated.
The activity was indeed a great initiative by Team Dettol to
encourage children to wash hand especially before meal and after using toilets.
Not doing so can invite several diseases such as diarrhea and food poisoning,
which are otherwise treatable. However, many people living below the poverty
line in Pakistan are unable to afford the treatment and end up losing a child. Indeed
very sad.
“Every year, Pakistan loses approximately 53,000 children to
diarrhea – a disease that is preventable through the simple act of hand
washing. With over 1600 students taking part in the hand washing relay today,
we hope to take this message across Pakistan and instill the habit of washing
hands among children. Dettol is committed to saving these lives and with the
support of the government, NGOs, schools and each and every citizen of
Pakistan; we can be successful in this endeavor.”
Upon successful completion of the record, Seyeda
Subasi-Gemici, a global authority on behalf of Guinness World Record, said, “We
congratulate Dettol Pakistan on their new GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS title. To
engage so many people in such a fantastic event is a truly impressive
achievement.”
Influential celebrity mothers Sarwat Gillani, Nadia Hussain
and Momal Sheikh were also there to show their strong support for the cause.
They also recorded video messages encouraging parents, especially mothers, to inculcate
handwashing habits in their children since the very beginning.
“Globally 1
child dies of diarrhea every minute. This is a disease that can be fought by
the simple act of hand washing. Today Dettol is teaching children the
importance of washing hands properly and its benefits. I am here to support
this great cause because there is nothing more important than saving these
innocent lives” – said Sarwat Gillani.
Looking forward to other personal care products come up with
similar campaigns that are not only effective for the brand itself but promote a good image of the
country as well.
