A Roundup of #FPW16: Day 1

The tenth edition of Fashion Pakistan Week (FPW) happened from 7^th – 9^th of April, 2016 in Karachi. The three-day fashion show was filled with a lot of mystery because no one knew till the end about the designers and fashion brands who were taking part in the show. While this might enthrall many people, many spectators seemed not-so-happy about it as they had to wait a lot to witness the collection of their favorite designers. This does not end here, the clouds of chaos and delays also kept surrounding the ramp in all three days.

Like it always happens, some designers completely stole the show and rocked the audience. On the other hand, many reputed designers and brands failed to keep up with their own benchmark and upset their fans. Hits and misses are indeed part of the game.Llet us take a closer look at the designers and fashion brands that literally wowed the audience with their sheer creativity and out-of-the-box thinking.

Top 3 Designers Who Rocked Day 1 of #FPW16

Deepak Perwani

DP showcased his label “D Philosophy” at the ramp and dedicated this collection to the people of Karachi. “Fix It”: was the name of this collection which boasts the tagline” Fix Karachi, Fix It”. There were shalwars, slits, trousers and blazers in vibrant colors, stripes and multiple patterns. All in all, it was a wearable collection whose showstoppers were Sarwat Gilani and Sikander Mirza.

Wardha Saleem

With her playful and cheerful collection, Saleem seemed highly inspired by her homeland and its culture. This is the same line which the designer has already presented in London Fashion Week. With this collection, she paid a tribute to the modern Pakistani women who are determined to live the life on their own terms. The collection features a seamless amalgamation of traditional embroidery and contemporary cuts made on raw silk, suede, organza, chiffon and silk with a tinge of neon colors that enhance the overall look of the attires. The neon touch and hand-crafted bags in collaboration with Jafferjees were the highlight of Wardha Saleem’s collection.

Kayseria

To be honest, I just couldn’t decide between Kayseria and Gulabo for the third spot. Both were equally mention-worthy in their own respective way and feature the signature style of the brands. However, blame my taste for traditional vintage wear (and the fear of white hair and black lips that followed Gulabo later), Kayeria made it to the list.

The label’s line up was inspired by the Royal Courts of Dehli and featured hand-crafted shararas and ghararas  with mirror work and intricate embroidery on a subtle color palette just like the ones we saw our grandmothers wearing.
